ImbokodoMzwakhe Mbuli- Thunder song; `Imbokodo`,
Sung by Bongani NX One of the album`s truly exceptional hit is `Imbokodo`, which pays tribute to the long list of South African women whose strength of character and whose moral backbones have proved to be the real fulcrum on which the country`s movement into social, economic and political freedom turns. Ellen Khuzwayo, Fatima Meer, Helen Suzman, Florence Mkhize, Princess Magogo, Victoria Mxenge, and Helen Joseph are just some of the women featured in the song. |

Gigi - Guramayle"Guramayle," which Gigi sub-titled "a love song to a child of the Diaspora," addresses the difficulty she has had trying to fit in with her countrymen after seeing so much of the outside world. In Ethiopia, "guramayle" is a put-down used to belittle those who have become too European and forgotten their roots. --BeastlyStoll

Happy Music - Featuring Jill Scott
Below you find music that is what make s me feel happy. African people have a deep-rooted history in music; there are many genres that one can feel parallel with. Music is an immense element in my life, as it may also be for you. I was very much interested in African sounds and found myself spending time in Record Shack on 1-2-5 Street, seeking out African music I could study. Oh, I used to love playing Billie, Ma Rainey, and Bessie’s 78s, or a 45 of DJ Rogers singing Beula Jean. I am reminded here of many times when I would play Billie Holiday and feel the pain of a relationship gone past and would identify so much with the timbre of her tone. However, I know music like Stevie Wonder is what I want to listen to when I want a mood picker-upper. You may not have the same musical taste as another person, and your music may not be Black music, nor does it have to be, but you need your own songs to play that will get you going and keep you feeling good. I call them Happy Music. Here are a few songs that I jotted down in the past few years that draw happy feelings to me. Go to the survey page and enter in your own happy music to share with us.
